Dog Days.

… I’m still dealing with Muttlet’s sensitive stomach. Another trip to the vet yesterday because she was still kind of listless, not interested in her newly re-prescribed (!????) dog food and also had a seizure (she has epilepsy and is on meds for that). So the vet and I are now thinking the listlessness and lack of interest in food that returned later on Friday may have been part of the lead up to the seizure, when such behavior changes often occur.

In an effort to ease the transition back to the bland prescription food, the vet suggested I prepare chicken and rice for her. I did. Sans seasoning. And it’s kind of dry and, well, I keep looking at it thinking some sweet relish, chopped onion would make an almost edible human salad. But Muttlet… she’ll eat the pieces of chicken… but not with a great deal of relish. Maybe I’m pushing her to eat too soon. *sigh* Over-protective, but I come by it honestly.

If anyone has any good bland home-made dog food recipes for picky eaters with sensitive stomachs… please share. As few preservatives as possible would be nice. Yeah, I could google it. But that’s where I found the recipe she doesn’t seem to like.

In an effort to beat the heat and my rattled brain for a few hours I joined R and 40+ random local lesbians (where these women hide the rest of the year, I have no idea) at friend L’s annual pool party yesterday. L lives about three miles up the road, if that, so I was able to pop back home and check in on the pup. I also knew it would be the perfect place to get some pet parenting sympathy.

Or so I thought. When I arrived the pool was swarming not with tan women floating around with a beer in hand… but sun-blocked children with squirt guns and floaties.

I always stop and do a double take when encountering such scenes. Ten years ago there might have been one kid w/two mommies present… yesterday there were like, seven. And I’m still not sure which ones belonged to whom.

It’s fun to watch community parenting at work in such situations. A kids screams ‘help’ in jest and 14 heads swivel — at least 8 of them certified lifeguards during some phase of their life. Then of course, give a dyke a squirt gun and watch the competition begin. It’s frightful. I think at one point the kids fled the pool of their own volition.

R greatly enjoyed the red sangria. I enjoyed E’s music mixes — she captured the exact mood each hour of the day.

Neither of us cared for the mosquitoes…

Sorry to hear the Muttlet is still not feeling great. I’m having the same issue with my Yorkie – just got back from the vet this morning. She is on boiled chicken and rice as well. She hates the prescription food (I/D) so if you come across any good doggie recipies I would love to see them.

I would have been disappointed – I would have been hoping for the tan women on floats as well.
